2,365 youths to be trained under skill uplift plan

LAHORE

In order to provide trained manpower to the industry locally and internationally and reduce poverty, Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) will train 2,365 youths under Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Programme Phase-III.

According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, in this regard, Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) signed an MoU with National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) here on Wednesday at Tevta Secretariat.

This MoU was signed by Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh and Regional Director NAVTTC Haji Muhammad Dogar. Chief Operating Officer Tevta Jawad Ahmed Qureshi and other officers of Tevta were also present on the occasion.

Irfan Qaiser Sheikh while addressing the participants of ceremony said that according to the terms of MoU, NAVTTC will pay Rs95 million to Tevta to train 2,365 youths. The youths will be trained through six months short-term youth skill development programme at 32 Tevta institutes across the province of the Punjab. These short courses will be offered in 27 demand driven trades. Admission process has started and classes will commence from May 18, 2016. No fees will be charged from the trainees and a stipend of Rs3,000 per month will be paid to every trainee during the course of training. A tool kit will also be provided to every trainee free-of-cost. 

Chairperson Tevta further said that Tevta would provide workshops, trainees, faculty, training facilities, utilities and certificates to all successful trainees while NAVTTC would meet operating costs and monitor & evaluate the programme for achievement of its objectives.

This effort to provide employable skills in short duration to the youths will not only enable them to be financially independent but would help to meet the shortage of trained manpower in the local and international job markets.
