Senate’s claim

April 30, 2016
This refers to the news report, ‘Panama Papers probe to bring no result, claims Senate panel’ (April 28). According to the news, the Senate Standing Committee on Finance has expressed its inability to prove the wrongdoings of all major parties or members of the Senate in the presence of the Protection of Economic Reforms Act-1992 and the absence of required laws to seek official records from foreign countries known as tax havens. This is the most bizarre statement made by the senators.
If they can amend rules relating to their perks and privileges in a fraction of a moment, why can they not amend the act in the interest of the country?
