Religious leaders pledge to uphold Islamic identity of Pakistan

The leaders of prominent religious parties of the country met here on Tuesday and renewed their pledge to maintain Islamic identity and ideological basis of Pakistan.

The leaders representing different schools of thought decided to live above sectarian differences while resisting efforts of the government to deviate from ideological basis of Pakistan and legislate any un-Islamic law.

“We have decided that the government will not be allowed to follow policies and laws which clash with injunctions of the Holy Quran and Sunnah,” Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) ameer Senator Sirajul Haque while addressing a joint press conference with other leaders said.

Allama Sajid Naqvi presided over the meeting of religious leaders which was held under umbrella of a special committee of the Milli YekJehti Council (MYC).

Prominent among those who attended the meeting include JI ameer Senator Sirajul Haque, JI General secretary Liaquat Baloch, ameer of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith Allama Sajid Mir, JUI-F naib ameer Maulana Fazal Ali Haqqani, central president Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) Pir Ejaz Hashmi, Hafiz Aakif Saeed of Jamaatud Daawa, chairman Shia Ulema Council Allama Syed Arif Wahdi, senior naib ameer JUP (Noorani), Allama Ibtesam Elahi Zaheer and others.

Sirajul Haque told newsmen that the religious leadership of the country while living above all the sectarian differences has decided to continue struggle for eradication of corruption and terrorism to safeguard Islamic identity of Pakistan.

He said the religious leaders also decided to hold meetings with envoys of the Muslim countries in order to end tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Liaquat Baloch who is also general secretary of MYC said that all the religious parties had rejected Punjab government’s Protection of Women against Violence Act while terming the same against Injunctions of Islam.

Professor Sajid Mir and  Maulana Haqqani said the religious forces always get united whenever the country faces any crisis. “We are also united today to safeguard Pakistan against all the internal and external conspiracies and protect its Islamic identity,” he said.
