542 TVET disciplines okayed for accreditation

The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NVTTC) has accredited 542 disciplines and trades of 78 technical and vocational education and training institutes.

The approval was granted during the 10th meeting of the NAVTTC-TVET Accreditation and Quality Evaluation Committee at the NAVTTC headquarters.

The meeting called on the directions of NAVTTC Executive Director Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema continued for four consecutive days.

NAVTTC Director General Mahboob Iqbal Qadir chaired the meeting, where the representatives of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, TEVTA Punjab, TEVTA AJK, TEVTA KPK, TTB Balochistan, Pakistan Engineering Council, Higher Education Commission, National Institute of Science and Technical Education, GIZ, NAVTTC and TVET Reform Support Programme were in attendance.

The participants examined all 587 programmes and trades offered by 78 countrywide TVET institutes and approved 542 of them for accreditation in various categories.

Now, the number of accredited TVET programmes in the country has increased to 1,130. The list of such programmes and institutes are available at the NAVTTC’s official website. The committee appreciated the relevant NAVTTC team for successfully achieving the target of accrediting at least 1,000 programmes by March 2016.

Meanwhile, NAVTTC Executive Director Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema stressed the need to accredit the maximum possible TVET institutes in the country to bring quality culture in the TVET sector and said that would help ensure the employability of youths in line with the national and international requirements.
