Former APMSO chief among two new PSP additions
Karachi
Two former leaders of the All Pakistan Muttahida Students’ Organisation (APMSO) on Monday jumped ship to the Pak Sarzameen Party being led by renegade Muttahida leader and former city mayor Mustafa Kamal.
Former chairman of the APMSO, Waheed-uz-Zaman, and Mohammed Raza Abidi arrived from London a day earlier to join the PSP.
As usual, Kamal announced the PSP's latest entrants in a press conference at his DHA residence.
On the other hand, a statement was issued from Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s headquarters Nine Zero announcing cancellation of the party membership of both former workers of its student wing.
The statement also warned other workers and leaders in its union and town committees against contacting Zaman and Abidi.
At the press conference, Abidi talked about his 16 years of self-exile in London. “I remained silent at what I was witnessing at the MQM’s London secretariat between 1989 and 1998,” he said.
“I have worked with both Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani and I was determined to return to Pakistan to join the PSP. When I was leaving, people tried to discourage me and told me that my life will be in danger. But see, nothing has happened to me and I am now a member of the PSP.”
Also addressing the press conference, Zaman asked his friends and supporters the reason for their silence and their continued affiliation with the MQM.
Kamal while revealing more dirt on his old party accused MQM convener Nadeem Nusrat of being complicit in the murders of numerous party workers.
He said the party created “teams” for carrying out their nefarious tasks and later disposed off them because they became a liability and knew too much, claiming that about half of Muttahida supporters who had died to date were actually killed on behalf of party leaders.
