Offshore stance
This refers to the letter, ‘Offshore safeguards’ (April 9) by Asad A Khan. The writer has opined that many big companies around the world legally keep the bulk of their money in offshore companies to safeguard their existence. And not all offshore companies are established to hide illicit wealth. Normally, the identities of the owners are hidden in offshore investments, and they are not asked to disclose the source of their money. Therefore, it was up to the Sharif family to prove that no illegality was involved in their offshore business.
However, instead of coming up with any concrete arguments, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid is devoting his full energies in accusing Imran Khan of investing the charity funds of the Shaukat Khanum Hospital in offshore companies. Even if his accusations are true, should that justify the stance of the Sharif family on their offshore businesses?
