‘Quality education key to real progress’

A three-day international conference on “Education and Research” organised by University of Education started here on Thursday. 

More than 92 scholars are presenting their research papers on different approaches and aspects of education while renowned scholars from Germany, England, Canada, Saudi Arabia and other countries are also participating.

Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairman Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the conference. Speaking on the occasion, he said teachers’ training on modern standards for promoting the quality education was of great importance, adding that the Punjab government was spending a huge budget for the betterment of education sector, sustainable development and implementing new reforms.

University of Education (UOE) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam presided over the conference while Director Division of Education Dr Intizar Hussain Butt and others were also present. 

Dr Nizam said that education and research was a real base of developed nations. He said that the core purpose of research work of national and international scholars was to serve and improve field of education in true sense so that the dream of an educated and prosperous Pakistan could come true.

Dr Rauf-i-Azam said quality education was an open secret to real progress and development of any nation. To establish intellectual fora and maintain linkages with national and international reputable educational institutions and academia was a key step to promote the quality education, he added. 

GCU Vice-Chancellor Dr Hasan Amir Shah, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, ex-VC University of Education Dr Munawar Mirza, Chairman NACTE Riazul Haq Tariq, Controller Examinations Dr Ashiq Hussain Dogar, Education University Registrar Dr Manzoom Akhter, varsity directors and principals, national and international scholars, renowned educationists, thinkers, teachers and a large number of students attended the inaugural session.

Prof Jean B Hache from Canada University also addressed the ceremony and declared the 21st century, a century of learning and innovations. He also talked about new trends and approaches of effective teaching methodologies.

MOU: University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) signed an MOU on Thursday to promote the research collaboration, training exchange and workshops in the areas of mutual interest.

UET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid and Director General PMD Dr Ghulam Rasul signed the document to formalise the liaison between the two organisations.

In the result of collaboration between both organisations a mobile based weather information service, covering 139 districts of Pakistan, will also be launched. It will provide easy and speedy access to users to be updated about weather forecast. 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Fazal Khalid said it was essential for the welfare of public to develop strong links of coordination and cooperation among departments. He added UET was developing the linkages with the government departments, industry and other organisations to attain the objective of knowledge based economy. Dr Ghulam Rasul said development of software regarding the speedy information about weather would facilitate the masses.
