MQM’s cleaning campaign reaches Karachi University

On the sixth day of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Clean Karachi Campaign on Wednesday, senior deputy convener Faroot Sattar and nominated mayor Waseem Akhtar cleared garbage from the Karachi University.

Both leaders while addressing youth the campus urged them to participate in the cleanliness campaign. 

They also demanded from the government to transfer powers at the grass roots level. 

Replying to a question, Akhtar said the meeting of MQM lawmakers with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator had gone very well and he had assured  the party of help in cleaning the city.

Dissidents’ rally 

Meanwhile, dissident leader of the MQM, Mustafa Kamal said preparations were underway to hold a massive public rally at the Jinnah Ground on March 23.

Anis Qaimkhani said thousands of people were contacting them and they were considering their suggestions. He said the public meeting on March 23 will be a big and organized public meeting.

Dr Sagheer Ahmed, who was the first sitting MQM MPA to join the dissidents’ group said they wanted to reclaim the identity of the city. 

When asked a question, Mustafa Kamal said he hadn’t talked to MQM chief Alaf Hussain since he had left Karachi. Interestingly, he denied having said anything about the health of “Altaf Sahab” on any television channel since his return.

When asked about the delay in transfer of powers to the locally-elected bodies, Kamal said he wasn’t aware of the situation.
