Safe schools

The news of a 14-year-old girl from Larkana being raped by her teacher is highly unsettling. Pakistan is a country where women are restrained from going to schools. Under such circumstances, those who are brave enough to send their daughters to schools expect the faculty to take good care of their wards.
What is more surprisingly is how the government has reacted mildly towards the news and has not made many an effort to punish the teacher sufficiently. It is time our society let go off the ‘boys-will-be-boys’ excuse and started acknowledging the wrong for a change. If one person is adequately punished for committing such an inhumane act, then I am sure not many sick minds would even dare thinking of repeating such an act.
