Baloch calls for sanctity of voters
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch on Thursday said the slogan calling for upholding the sanctity of vote was being raised by ruling quarters with full force but it was a fact that past and present rulers had never given any sanctity to the voters.
Talking to different delegations at Mansoora, he said the people coming into power through vote had only pursued their personal interests at the cost of national interests. He said while the bank balances, properties and businesses of the rulers had increased tremendously the patriotic voters got nothing except to pay huge prices for the luxurious lifestyles of the ruling elite and bureaucracy.
He said the voters got nothing but price hike, unemployment, lawlessness, load-shedding and lack of clean drinking water. Liaqat Baloch, who is also the Secretary General of MMA, said MMA was a substitute for those vying for continuing the status quo and it would restore the sanctity of the vote and respect of the voters. He said rulers’ claims of ending the load-shedding had proved hollow as the country was suffering from 16-hours load-shedding a day making public’s life miserable. He said business had collapsed in Karachi due to load-shedding. He opposed any fresh raise in the power tariff and said it would be tyrannical.
