Decisions being taken by judiciary: Khursheed
ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah has said the decisions which should be made in parliament were being taken by the judiciary as it was taking important decisions for the country. But he said it was not appropriate for the institutions to cross their limits.
He said the supremacy of parliament should be ensured and all the institutions should perform their duties within their constitutional domain. He said it was not a good omen that the judiciary started performing functions of the executive.
“The judges are now giving orders as to what should, and should not, happen in Sindh,” he said. Initiating the debate on the presidential address to parliament, Syed Khursheed Shah came down on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi-led government for not addressing the real issues being faced by the country and its people. “When the prime minister is not aware of what is happening in the country, he has no right to be the head of the government,” he said.
In this connection, he talked about the problems of sugarcane growers, saying the farmers were suffering whereas the sugar mills were closed. He questioned if the seasoned politicians failed to guide the country, where the 200 million people were supposed to go for help for solution of their problems.
Syed Khursheed Shah said history would remember his advice to the former prime minister that he should give importance to parliament. He recalled during the PPP regime, the members of the federal cabinet were answerable to parliament. He said the country is standing at a point where even the US is rejecting visa requests from Pakistani nationals.
