HAFIZABAD: The total reached 24 after eight more female victims of extracting bone marrow to be later sold in black market surfaced on Wednesday. According to DHQ Hospital MS Dr Rehan Azhar, marks of injections were found their bodies and the samples had been sent to Punjab Forensic Sciences Agency. Three of the women were shifted to the DHQ Hospital for medical checkup, while the other had been referred to the hospitals in Lahore. On the other hand, police sent two accused – Nadeem Iqbal and Sajid – to Lahore for polygraph test. The Hafizabad DPO said investigation into the case was in progress and strict action would be taken against the culprits. He said six accused, including one from Rawalpindi, had so far been arrested, adding that they had registered two FIRs on the applications filed by the affected women.
The gang was busted on Monday after reports surfaced that it had illegally extracted spinal fluid from unwilling women under the pretext of a ‘medical checkup’.
The father of a 17-year-old victim had informed the police that a sample had been taken from his daughter’s body by people who claimed they were employees of a hospital and the spinal fluid was a necessary part of a medical checkup, which was required for financial assistance for the victim's dowry, Geo News reported on Tuesday.
According to the father, his daughter started feeling weak after returning home. He then reported the incident to the police, informing them about the place where her daughter’s ‘medical test’ had taken place.
Police then raided the location in Mohallah Bahawalpura and arrested the gang’s members.
