PESHAWAR: As many as 494 graduates of the University of Peshawar (UoP) were given away degrees at the annual convocation of the varsity for the session 2013 here on Wednesday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan, who is also chancellor of the public sector universities, conferred degrees on the students.
Some 35 candidates, including 19 girls, were given gold medals for outstanding performance in their respective departments. Twenty-six PhD and seven MPhil scholars were also awarded degrees on the occasion.
Addressing the convocation, Sardar Mahtab felicitated the graduating students, their parents and the teachers. “The achievement of the students showed their gratitude and abiding respect towards their institution,” he added.
The governor maintained that the growth of the universities would be meaningless without focusing on the research, publication and development. “It’s really heartening to know that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) ranking of the University of Peshawar has improved this year,” he maintained.
