DIR: A speech competition among the students of private schools of Upper Dir was held here under the Youth Development Activity Programme of the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) here on Saturday.
The competition was held by the SRSP under the European-funded Peace project. The competitions of English and Urdu speeches, Qiraat, Naat Khwani and national songs were held.
The students of the Allama Iqbal Modal School and College clinched first position in all categories while the students of District Council Public High School stood second in the competition.
Speaking on the occasion, SRSP Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Fayyaz Ahmad said that his organisation had designed the programme for youth to enhance their mental potential and ability as well so as they could take part in sports competition and other healthy activities.
He said that under the programme, his organisation was holding the tournaments of cricket, volleyball, Kabadi among government and private schools.
Fayyaz Ahmad said that the students in Upper Dir had a lot of abilities and potential. However, he added they were not being provided opportunities to put their abilities to good use.
He said the SRSP was providing them opportunities to use their potential.
