PESHAWAR: The Lady Health Workers (LHWs) on Monday blocked the main road by staging protest outside the Press Club and sit-in near the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly building for release of their salaries.
Carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands, the infuriated LHWs from all over the province chanted slogans against the government. They demanded immediate release of their salaries, which they said had not been paid to them for the last three months.
The hours-long protest created traffic problems on the main road and in the city as the traffic was diverted on other routes. Various protesting LHWs fell unconscious during the protest and were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital.
Talking to reporters, the LHVs said they had no other option, but to take to the roads for the acceptance of their demands. They said they had not received salaries for three months and urged the government to provide them their salaries.
They vowed to continue the protest till acceptance of their demands as they said the previous assurances proved mere lip-service.
