NOWSHERA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission on Friday arrested Asad Gul, chief coordination officer of District Council Nowshera, on charges of corruption and misuse of authority.
Asad Gul was arrested as soon as he came out of the office of the Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMA), and was shifted to Peshawar. The officials of the Ehtesab Commission also seized all the office record they could find. They directed the TMA officials to provide the Ehtesab Commission all the record from 2004 to 2010. However, most of the record had been reportedly destroyed in the 2010 floods.
Sources in the Ehtesab Commission said that action against Asad Gul was initiated on the charges of corruption and misuse of authority. The precise nature of the charges against him weren’t specified.
Asad Gul had assumed charge of chief coordination officer of District Council Nowshera in September 2013. He was serving in the native district of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, who has declared umpteen times that the Ehtesab Commission set up by his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could also take action against him in case of any wrong-doing on his part.
The Ehtesab Commission, headed by former Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen (Retd) Hamid Khan, was formed in October 2014 but it formally began its work in December of that year. It has made several arrests of politicians, government officials, contractors, etc since then and is said to be in the process of apprehending more people.
