LAKKI MARWAT: The district chapter of all primary teachers association held demonstration in Lakki city on Sunday against assigning teachers polio duty and false reporting of independent monitoring unit (IMU).
A large number of primary schoolteachers walked on old Kutchehry road and reached Qazi Ishfaq Chowk on main lorry stand.Apta district president Haji Abdul Rahim, general secretary Muhammad Ibrahim and provincial vice-president Shafiq Ahmad led the procession.
On the occasion the teachers’ leaders demanded the government and local administration to exempt teachers from performing polio duty. “The government should let the teachers to focus on imparting quality education to the students,” one of the teachers said.
They said that to administer anti-polio drops to the children on their doorsteps was not the duty of teachers. “We are not against polio eradication campaigns but what we want to convey to the government is that teachers’ engagement in anti-polio campaigns will affect the education of students at schools,” said a teacher. He asked the government to depute health workers for immunisation of kids against polio or hire volunteers for the purpose.
