RIS celebrates Universal Children’s Day

The countrywide branches of Roots International Schools (RIS) celebrated Universal Children’s Day under the umbrella of Global Citizenship Club. It was celebrated by holding a variety of events in which children read out poems, delivered speeches on child rights and held stage shows to raise voice for their rights.
Universal Children's Day that takes place annually on November 20. First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954, it was established to encourage all countries to institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children.
Roots International Schools celebrated a day with children for who they are and to bring awareness to children around the globe that have succumbed to violence in forms of abuse, exploitation and discrimination. In today’s time, children are used as labours in some countries, immersed in armed conflict, living on the streets, suffering by differences be it religion, minority issues, or disabilities.
Roots International Schools students highlighted the significance of education and to make education compulsory for all children and to provide basic rights of health, education, nutrition, shelter, food, equality in gender and protection from violence.
