The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Monday announced an eight-point academic plan to project intellectual and revolutionary thoughts of great poet and philosopher Dr. Muhammad Iqbal.
The plan included holding of Iqbal’s international conference annually, publication of a research journal, preparing a documentary on his vision and thoughts, establishment of Iqbal corner in University’s Central library, publication of book on ‘Maqalyiat Iqbal’ (students’ edition), compiling of book on his son Dr. Javed Iqbal's speeches, recasting of a drama which was staged by Javed himself in his early age and publication of a calendar on Iqbal.
The plan was announced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while addressing two-day international conference on Dr. Iqbal, held here at the university’s main campus. Barrister Moneeb Iqbal Grandson of Dr. Iqbal presided over the inaugural session of the conference, which was also attended by scholars from Canada, Turkey and Iran.
The conference’s proceeding was broadcast and telecast nation-wide through video link, university’s web-TV and FM radio. The speakers who presented their research papers at the inaugural session included Dr. Taqi Abdi, Prof. Fateha Muhammad Malik, Prof. Dr. Anwar Ahmed, Dr. Khalid Masood and Dr. Shahid Iqbal Kamran, chairman department of Iqbal Studies that arranged the conference.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that the proposed academic plan is aimed at motivating the youth to follow the footprints of Dr. Iqbal. The AIOU has the pride that it was established after name of the great poet and fulfilled its academic responsibilities by doing extensive research work on his thoughts. The university has issued 38 PhD and 400 M.Phil degrees on Iqbalyiat.
Paying tributes to Dr. Iqbal, he said his contribution in field of literature and poetry is highly commendable. His thoughts had been the source of strength for getting rid of mental and economic slavery of the West.
