Most of the capital city’s private schools have yet to file the sought-after fee adjustment compliance report with their government watchdog, PEIRA.
Lately, the prime minister first ordered freeze on private school fee in Islamabad during the current year and later issued orders for the sealing of the schools not refunding or adjusting extra fee.
In line with the orders, the PEIRA set the October 15 deadline for schools to file fee adjustment compliance report.
However, even after the expiry of the deadline, most of the city’s 1,070 privately-owned have turned out to be non-compliant.
According to a senior PEIRA official, some private schools have formally informed parents of their students that they will adjust in the next bills the extra fee charged for the ongoing session lately, but a large majority has yet to do so.
“Until now, just around 200 schools have filed fee adjustment compliance report,” he said. The official said a stay order issued by the Islamabad High Court against the fee adjustment directives had stopped the PEIRA from cracking down on defiant schools.
