Islamabad: Speakers at a seminar here on Monday said that although Pakistan was vulnerable to climate changes and puts it into a challenging situation, however it also opens door to many opportunities to develop the country.
“Comprehensive measures for mitigation and adaptation to new changes would help cope with the challenges and transform these into opportunities,” they said while speaking at seminar on “Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security in Pakistan: Adaptation Options and Strategies” here at National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC).
The Seminar was organized by Pakistan Institute of Development Economic (PIDE) in collaboration with Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) with an aim to discuss latest research conducted on climate change in Pakistan.
Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R), Seerat Asghar while speaking on the occasion said that adaptation to the rising temperature would not be difficult, however availability of water is a challenge and for coping this, a comprehensive strategy needed to be devised.
He was of the view that climate change, in fact, have impacted more positively than negatively as it has come with both challenges and opportunities. The secretary urged the scientists to also analyze and study the impact of climate change on glaciers that would prove a productive in terms of formulating future strategies.
