Residents of several localities of Chaklala Cantonment Board have been facing severe water shortage for the last 10 days, which has intensified their problems in the month of Ramazan and summer season. According to the citizens, the localities of Talhi Mohri, Dheri Hassanabad, Aslam Shaheed Road, Akram Colony, Lalazar, Ghousia Chowk, Kalma Chowk, Harley Street, and Ghousia Colony have been badly hit by water shortage for over the last 10 days.
Similarly, acute shortage of water also persists in the mosques also creating problems for Namazis.
According to the higher officials of CCB including engineers and directors as well as incharge of the water department, who agreed that the problem of water shortage is persisting in many localities, the crisis has erupted due to problem of non-supply of water discharged from Khanpur Dam. A senior engineer, while requesting not to be named, said that the civic body is working on to remove the problem of non-supply of water from Khanpur which would be completed in couple of days.
However, the citizens continued to face this problem even on Friday. A large number of citizens were seen in the civic body water department to avail the facility of bowsers on payment.
A good number of citizens also complained about huge fares of tanker being supplied to them.
Imtiaz Aalam said that the civic body claims water charges from the consumers but fail to provide them this facility. Now we are even forced to pay tanker charges which are also very huge and beyond our reach to manage and afford twice or thrice in a month. He proposed that the civic body should provide facility of water tankers free of cost in such areas which are hit by water problem due to faults developed in Khanpur or other dams.
Mohammad Rafaqat alleged that five days ago, he had demanded water bowser in Street No.12, Talhi Mohri for supply of water to public, however, the authorities did not sent the tanker despite making assurances in this regard. He said people with keeping fast have to brought water from filtration plants and far away localities.
However, incharge of water bowzer section, Asif Bhatti did not agree to the allegations that tanker was not provided in Talhi Mohri despite assurances. Rather he told that the civic body has supplied water through bowzer to the residents of Street no 12, Talhi Mohri after 12 midnight. Similarly, the civic body on daily basis provide tankers of water to the entire public of the localities which are severely hit by water shortage. No charges of bowzer are claimed while supplying water to the public, he claimed.
The perturbed citizens have appealed to the Station Commander and President of RCB and CCB as well as Chief Executive Officer Rana Khalil to take notice of the water crisis pertaining in several localities and adopt measures for removing the fault so that the people could avail this facility without any problem. The citizens also appealed the CEO to provide water bowzers on concessional rates during the summer seasons instead of charging heavy fares.
