Air Commodore (r) Tariq Mahmud Ashraf SI(M), SBt, TI(M) has been appointed as registrar of the Air University (AU), says a press release.
He got the commission in Pakistan Air Force in 1973 with 60th GDP course. During the 32 years of service in PAF, he earned several remarkable achievements to his credit. He served as Base Commander of PAF Base Minhas, Kamra. He also has the honour of commanding the Elite No. 9 M.R. Squadron (F-16). He attended the Advanced Staff College (84) at RAF Staff College, Bracknell in the UK, where he became the first ever PAF officer to be awarded the coveted Andover Prize for writing the best research paper submitted by an overseas officer attending the course.
He graduated in Defence and Strategic Studies form NDU, Islamabad and passed MA in International Policy & Diplomacy from Staffordshire University, UK. During his PAF career, he also served as the Pakistan Defence Attaché to Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea and Australia. After retirement from the PAF, he served as deputy general manager and chief ground instructor in Fujairah Aviation Academy, UAE. He is also author of two books named ‘Air Power’ and ‘Nuclear Dynamics of South Asia.’ He is a renowned strategic, defence and aerospace power analyst and writer in the country. Air University management and faculty felicitated him on his appointed as registrar.
