Islamabad Pakistan was elected vice chair of the executive board of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in its meeting held in Geneva on Wednesday. The director general of health Dr. Assad Hafeez was Pakistan’s nominee for the important slot. His name was recommended by minister of state for health. The WHO executive board has 34 members comprising top health experts and senior government representatives. It is the premier policy-making forum of the global health arm of the United Nations, and has two major roles. In its executive role, the board ensures that decisions and policies of the World Health Assembly are carried out. In its advisory role, the Board advises the World Health Assembly on any matter that the latter may refer to it, and provides guidance on health policy, planning and strategic issues.
