Rawalpindi: The employees of Iesco on the call of All Pakistan Wapda Hydroelectric Workers Union (APWHWU and as per their programme observed a complete strike on Tuesday and boycotted official duties to express their strong resentment over government’s proposed plan to privatise the organisation.
As part of the protest plan, the entire employees of Iesco offices staged a sit-in inside and outside their respective branches including the main head office situated at Mareer Chowk, Rawalpindi. According to the union representatives, the protest along with sit-ins were observed in all parts of the Punjab in general and Rawalpindi as well as Islamabad in particular.
The union leaders including Javed Iqbal Baloch, Regional Chairman, Islamabad, Malik Fateh Khan, Regional Vice President and Raja Khalil Ashraf, regional vice chairman along with hundreds of other employees while wearing black bands on their shoulders kept on shouting anti-government slogans while carrying banners and placards.
As the Iesco employees protested and boycotted official works, the consumers who visited the sub branches and main office in connection with their problems related with bill correction were not attended. Even in several branches of Iesco, higher officials like SDOs and electrical engineers did not attend their offices because of protest by the lower grade employees up to 1 to 15 scale.
