The representatives of civil society and academicians have hailed Pakistan’s first ever ‘Roadmap for Strengthening Social Sciences’ recently unveiled by Inter University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences Pakistan (IUCPSS), an autonomous alliance of 26 Pakistani universities, says a press release.
In their respective messages, Chairman National Vice Chancellors Committee & Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan, Founder Chairperson Inter University Consortium Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Executive Director Centre for Civic Education Pakistan Zafarullah Khan, Secretary General Council of Social Sciences Dr. Nadeem Omar Tarar, President Civil Society Network Abdullah Malik and others not only appreciated the roadmap but also assured their cooperation for effective implementation. They hoped that the roadmap would be greatly helpful in improving the state of social sciences in Pakistan which has been neglected area.
According to the salient features of the roadmap, the consortium would enhance the capacity of social sciences faculty by arranging workshops/trainings in research methodology and writing, conduct training workshops for promoting skill development programme, support establishment of professional/subject associations, establish a center (think tank) to address local issues, organise Pakistan’s first ever ‘Social Sciences Expo’, publish a quality research journal in social sciences, organise major international conference each year involving all its partner organisations and undertake special steps aiming at promoting inter provincial experience sharing and coordination mechanism especially in higher education sector.
In addition, student and faculty exchange programme would be encouraged and dialogue among the youth from various provinces may be organised to order to promote inter provincial harmony. Special attention would be paid to civic and human rights education among the university youth. In this regard, special programmes may be initiated in collaboration with IUCPSS partner organizations.
