‘Gangsters’, riding on two motorcycles, attacked traffic police officials at Islamabad Expressway near Kaak Pul when they were intercepted by cops on violation of traffic rules.
They also fired at cops while fleeing from the scene, but the wounded traffic cops overpowered one of the attackers and shifted him to the police station, police said.
Police said that ASI Mukhtar Hussain and Constable Khadim Hussain of the Islamabad Traffic Police were on duty at Islamabad Expressway. They intercepted two motorcyclists on violation of traffic rules and demanded documents, but the bike-riders started thrashing the cops and wounded them. The cops, however, clutched one of the attackers and handed him over to the mobile police. No eyewitness confirmed that bullets were fired at police during the scuffle.
The arrested attacker was identified as Attique, son of Sultan, hailing from Kohat, police said. During questioning, the suspect disclosed identity of his aides. Police teams have been sent to hunt down the remaining four attackers.
