Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has closed 6th Road for two days to early complete the much delayed Metro Bus Service Project by March 31.
Official spokesman for RDA and Metro Bus Project, Hafiz Muhammad Irfan told this correspondent that the route leading from 6th Road to Fiazabad has been closed for two days in order to carry out work on Metro Bus services on war footing.
He said the people specially living along these routes should realise the situation of work on the project and should cooperate with the authorities.
The route has been closed due to reconstruction and carpeting of road from 6th Road to Faizabad. The workers have been directed to complete the task within two days. Work on this component is being carried out even at night hours, to complete it at the earliest.
After completion of work, other routes would also be closed for doing road constructions and its carpeting, he added.
However, due to closure of 6th Road route up to Faizabad, the residents, motorists, traders and office goers suffered badly as they faced multiple kinds of problems throughout the day. People vehemently lambasted the executing body and the authorities for improper planning while carrying out work on the project, creating lots of problems for them .
Due to closure of road, the services of public transport including Hiace remained suspended on this route. As a result the residents including office goers and school as well as college going students living across these areas and having no conveyance of their own had to travel long distances for catching public transport to reach their places.
While walking along the damaged roads, people of all ages including pedestrians faced lot of problems. The traders big and small associated with the business of electrical appliances, mechanical, clothes, fruit and vegetable sellers, general stores also faced the wrath as they suffered huge loss in their business.
Last but not the least, entire traffic plying from Mareer Chowk to 6th Road and 6th Road to Mareer Chowk remained jammed throughout the day creating nuisance for the motorists and bike riders as their vehicles remained choked for long hours.
The traffic wardens were seen helpless in clearing the traffic and diverting the stuck vehicles on to the alternative routes.
Talking to this correspondent , the people as well as motorists and traders condemned the related authorities particularly RDA for closing different sections of Benazir Bhutto Road with particular reference to 6th Road to Faizabad for three days, making them to suffer drastically.
The traders representatives Ishtiaq Hussein, Mohammad Shafqat also warned to stage a protest demonstration against the executing authorities if the project is not completed in short period of five days.
They alleged since the work on project was kicked off, the entire traders suffered huge loss to their business. At this pretext, they demanded off the Punjab government to waive off all kind of taxes of them because they were not able to generate income from their businesses since the launch of work on the project.
