Chilliness was in the air on Monday following the continuous rain, which forced people to bundle up in jackets, sweaters, caps and scarves before stepping out. It began raining coupled with strong winds and thunderstorms early on Sunday and continued on Monday.
All through the day, a light drizzle as well as heavy showers were reported in the capital city. While forecasting the wet spell would continue for the next 48 hours, the Met Office said Islamabad received 87 millimeters rain in Golra, 72 millimeters in Saidpur and 67 in Zero Point area. Before the current rain spell, the weather was pleasant prompting people to stop using woollies. Some even packed away heavy jackets and sweaters. However, the people resumed dressing warmly before stepping out due to the continuous rainfall, which lowered temperatures.
High sales of ‘samosas’ and ‘pakoras’ were also reported in the day, especially in the afternoon. However, the continuous rain threw traffic in many areas in disarray. Among the roads, which saw huge tailbacks in the day, especially in the morning, afternoon and evening, were Nazimuddin Road, Ibn-e-Sina Road, Margalla Road and Pitras Bukhari Road. The roads dug up for metro bus service as well as faulty traffic lights also contributed to the chaotic traffic. Traffic cops kept managing traffic but they appeared to be struggling with the job.
