Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) here on Friday cancelled a contract for provision of furniture to the Parliament Lodges while declaring the award of contract against Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) awarded the contract to a private firm. Another private firm, Burhan Kundi Furniture, had challenged the award of contract while calling it in violation of PPRA rules.
The IHC Bench, while cancelling the contract, directed the CDA to re-award the contract in a transparent manner and in compliance with PPRA rules.
Justice Siddiqui expressed his resentment regarding the state of affairs in CDA and observed that CDA has been making appointments and transfers under the pressure of the National Assembly deputy speaker. The authorities were selling posts in CDA and the prime minister should take serious notice of the situation. If court would take action, a number of people will become ineligible in the civic body, Justice Siddiqui said.
