LAHORE Wrong price fixation mechanism caused the unavailability of majority of seasonal vegetables in the weekly makeshift markets of the city. This also caused the gradual complete failure of these makeshift markets, which were started with the objective to provide relief to the public, have now become nuisance for them and place of massive overcharging. The vendors blamed that the vegetables rates were higher in the wholesale market of the city while the market committee officials did not issue realistic rates of vegetables. Thus, they were unable to sell the vegetables in the weekly makeshift markets. They said that actual buying rates of almost all seasonal vegetables at wholesale market were almost Rs10 to 20 per kilogram higher than the official rates. Thus, how anyone can sell it lower than their buying rates. They said that even in wholesale market, the retail sellers were selling these vegetables at higher rates. They said that the district government did not check the market committee officials at wholesale market. Thus the market committee officials fix the rates with their own will ignoring the realistic market rates, which causes serious disturbance in the market and overcharging. This week the price of potato new was increased by Rs4 per kg, fixed at Rs32 to 36 per kg, potato sugar-free at Rs18 to 21 per kg, and potato stored at Rs12 to 14 per kg, while sugar-free was sold at Rs36 per kg. Onion price was further increased by Rs2 per kg, fixed at Rs45 to 50 per kg, while B-grade was sold at Rs50 per kg, and A-grade was sold at Rs60 per kg. The price of tomato was reduced by Rs8 per kg, fixed at Rs50 to 56 per kg, but not sold there while in open markets sold at Rs80 to 100 per kg. Garlic local price was fixed at Rs130 to 140 per kg, garlic Chinese gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs160 to 170 per kg, while both sold at Rs150, and 180, per kg, respectively. The price of ginger Chinese was stable at Rs100 to 110 per kg, while sold at Rs120 per kg. Brinjal price was increased by Rs4 per kg, fixed at Rs25 to 30 per kg. Bitter gourd price was fixed at Rs50 to 55 per kg, while sold at Rs80 per kg. The price of spinach was gained by Rs9 per kg, fixed at Rs15 to 19 per kg, sold at Rs20 to 25 per kg. Both Zucchini local and farm was gained by Rs15 fixed at Rs50 to 56 per kg, while sold at Rs60 per kg. Lemon Chinese was gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs50 to 65 per kg, sold at Rs70 to 80 per kg. Methi price was declined by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs13 to 15 per kg, not available there while just outside sold at Rs40 per kg. The price of cauliflower was reduced by Rs2 per kg, fixed at Rs15 to 18 per kg, sold at Rs25 to 30 per kg, while cabbage was fixed at Rs30 to 35 per kg, sold at Rs40 per kg. Luffa price was fixed at Rs25 to 30 per kg but missing, pumpkin price was fixed at Rs30 to 35 per kg, sold at Rs40 per kg. Green Chilli local was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs70 to 80 per kg, Green Chilli farm at Rs55 to 60 per kg, while both sold at Rs80 to 100 per kg. Capsicum price was gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs80 to 90 per kg, sold at Rs120 per kg. The price of arum was fixed at Rs42 to 45 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs30 to 35 per kg, but missing. Pea price was fixed at Rs130 to 145 per kg, sold at Rs160 per kg, carrot was stable at Rs25 to 36 per kg, sold at Rs40 per kg. The price of radish was gained by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs8 to 12 per kg, but not sold in makeshift markets, while turnip was fixed at Rs15 to 20 per kg, low grade was sold at Rs30 per kg. The price of different variety of apples was fixed at Rs30 to 110 per kg, sold at Rs50 to 120 per kg. Pomegranate kandhari was fixed at Rs95 to 140 per kg, while B-grade was sold at Rs140 per kg, Pomegranate bedanda was fixed at Rs175 to 185 per kg, sold at Rs250 per kg. Guava price was fixed at Rs35 to 40 per kg, sold at Rs50 to 60 per kg. Both water nut and sweet potato were was fixed at Rs35 to 45 per kg, and sold at Rs50 per kg. Persimmon price was fixed at Rs50 to 60 per kg. The price of grapes Gola was fixed at Rs90 to 95 per kg, grapes Tofi at Rs90 to 120 per kg, and Sundarkhani at Rs170 to 195 per kg, sold at Rs120 to 220 per kg range. The price of banana A-grade was fixed at Rs35 to 40 per dozen, B-grade at Rs25 to 30 per dozen, while sold at Rs40 to 70 per dozen.
