LAHORE
Punjab University’s Academic Staff Association (ASA) has once again expressed strong concern over the visit of the Orange Train’s survey teams to PU Housing Society, Raiwind Road, and warned of “violent” protest by teachers this time.
This concern and “warning” was heard during a meeting of the ASA chaired by President Prof Dr Hassan Mobeen Alam and attended by Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, Vice-President Dr Abid Choudhary and other members on Punjab New Campus on Friday. They observed that the survey attempt was unjust as the government had earlier assured PU that it would not use the land of the varsity's employees for the project.
The meeting observed that earlier Chairman Lahore Transport Company (LTC) and Vice-Chairman LDA Khawaja Ahmad Hassan had announced in the general body meeting of more than 2,000 teachers that not even a single inch of PU teachers’ land would be used for the Orange Train Project and the teachers and employees would not be deprived of their hard earned dream of constructing their houses after paying installments for more than 12 years.
The ASA members said now once again survey teams were visiting the housing society in sheer violation of the promises made by the Punjab government through Khawaja Hassan and other officials.
The ASA has warned the government that if any attempt was made to break the earlier promises and try to disturb the peaceful community of teachers, they would come on the roads wearing gowns and may turn violent.
