Traffic plan for by-polls ready

The City Traffic Police finalised a traffic plan to maintain the smooth flow of traffic in the provincial metropolis on the eve of by-elections in NA-122 and PP-147 on Sunday (today).
According to the CTO, five DSPs, 14 inspectors, 58 patrolling officers, 30 vigilance officers and 370 traffic wardens will be deployed at the office of returning officer, election commissioner office, around the polling stations and on important roads under the supervision of two SPs. Two each traffic wardens will deployed outside 284 polling stations.
During the by-elections, four-layered security will be provided and policemen with anti-riot equipment will remain alert to deal with any untoward situation in Lahore and Okara. The APC will also be available to the vicinity to deal with any emergency and the Rescue 1122 will also remain on standby. According to the security plan, at 494 polling stations of both districts, 8,688 police officials will remain on duty which include 17 gazetted officers, 659 upper-subordinate, 5,500 lower-subordinates, 494 police Qaumi Razakar (PQR) and 1,976 special police officials in both constituencies. Similarly, the patrolling teams under the SP rank officer will remain on patrolling throughout the polling process. On the instructions of the Election Commission of Pakistan, contingents of Pakistan Army will also be deployed at the polling stations.
Speeding claims life: A 33-year-old man was killed by a speeding car in Harbanspura area on Saturday. The victim, yet to be identified, was crossing the road when a rashly driven car ran over him. As a result, he received fatal injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital where he yielded to wounds. Police shifted the body to morgue.
