Rs5.4b allocated for laptops

The Punjab government Thursday approved the establishment of National Safari Park in Salt Range and provision of laptops in fiscal year 2015-16 to the students in the province.
The government has allocated over Rs5.4 billion for the provision of laptops among the students. The scheme is largely playing an important role in getting political mileage by the government which was replicated in the last general election as well. Now it is expected that it will also help the government in the forthcoming Local Government elections.
The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party approved nine development schemes of various sectors with an estimated cost of Rs10.831 billion in 11th meeting of the PDWP held at Planning and Development Headquarters. The meeting was chaired by Chairman P&D Board Muhammad Irfan Elahi while the members of the Board, provincial secretaries concerned and other senior representatives of the relevant provincial departments also attended the meeting.
According to spokesman for P&DD, the approved development schemes included: provision of laptops (2015-16) at the cost of Rs5.455 billion, construction of concrete silos of 100,000 MT capacity at Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Kot Chuta (30,000 M. tons capacity at Mana Ahmadani at the cost of Rs345.068 million, feasibility for the establishment of “National Safari Park” in Salt Range (PC-II) at the cost of Rs9.200 million, comprehensive water supply and sewerage scheme Mianwali (Revised) at the cost of Rs499.104 million, establishment of Directorate General of Monitoring and Evaluation (Health) at the cost of Rs749.519 million, construction of Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex (Phase-II/A), Rahimyar Khan (Revised) at the cost of Rs1.5 billion, improvement/rehabilitation of Rawalpindi-Murree-Kashmir road at the cost of Rs1.306.685 billion, widening/improvement and rehabilitation of schemes in PP-272, district Bahawalpur at the cost of Rs290.592, and dualisation of Bahawalngar city roads with street lights at the cost of Rs698.081.
