Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has ordered establishment of service roads on both sides of the Ring Road.
He directed the Local Government Department to identify encroached state lands on the Ring Road. He also directed the departments concerned and district administrations to ensure completion of ongoing anti-encroachment campaign within six months.
According to an official statement, the chief minister presided over a meeting about the affairs of the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar at the Chief Minister Secretariat.
Provincial Minister for Information Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani, Chief Minister’s Special Assistant Mian Khaleequr Rahman, WSSP Executive Director Khalid Masood, secretary local government, chief executive of the WSSP, district nazim, deputy commissioner of Peshawar and other officers attended the meeting.
Expressing concern over reports of corrupt practices in the Local Government Department, the chief minister asked its high-ups to take necessary action to check them and remove those officers who have been posted at the same office or station since long.
The participants of the meeting discussed the issues being faced by WSSP in its operations. The chief minister directed departments and local governments to devise a foolproof mechanism to ensure coordination for executing development schemes and maintenance operations without damaging any civic facility or infrastructure. Stressing the need for strictly implementing the building laws, he asked the LG department to check development of unplanned and unauthorised housing colonies and said that certain criteria must be fixed for providing the basic civic amenities to such areas. Expressing dissatisfaction at civic facilities in the interior city of Peshawar, Pervez Khattak called for true revival of the old city and ordered establishment of a separate and independent authority for the revival of all old cities in the province.
Seeking progress reports on renovation of General Bus Stand in Peshawar, beautification of Nowshera, further widening of the main University Road and construction of Hayatabad Flyover, the chief minister directed the concerned authorities to engage reputed companies for early completion of these projects.
He also directed authorities to select suitable sites for setting up planned and organised cart markets for casual vendors and provide the licence holders carts of a unified design, which could add to the beauty of such markets.
