The Lahore High Court Wednesday sought a reply from the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in a petition challenging closure of entry and exit points and the sewerage system of a nearby village ‘Sangat Pura’ at Burki road. The court put off the proceedings for November 4.
The court also directed capital city police officer and district coordination officer to submit written replies on the next hearing. Arif and others, the residents of Sangat Pura village in the vicinity of DHA, had filed the petition and pointed out that the DHA authorities had blocked the entry and exit points of their village which was causing huge problems for them. Their transportation was stopped, the petitioner said. They stated that the old sewerage system of the village had also been suspended. Piles of clay had also been made around the village which had made their lives difficult.
They told the judge that in fact the DHA authorities wanted to purchase their village’s land against cheep rates. The petitioners requested the court to order the removal of barriers from their entry and exit points and from their sewerage system.
After hearing the initial arguments, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah issued notice to DHA and sought reply.
dismissed: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed bail petition of an alleged facilitator of terrorist organisation ‘al-Qaeda’ in Lahore.
Hasan Zaheer, a resident of Lahore, had filed the petition and submitted that he was not involved in any terrorist activities and had no links with al-Qaeda. The Counter Terrorism Department, the petitioner said, had arrested him on fake information and it had no solid evidence of his involvement. They had held him in illegal custody since June but still could not present any strong evidence or proof, said the petitioner. He requested the bench to order his release. The prosecution, however, opposed the arguments of the petitioner’s counsel and said that police and other law enforcement agencies arrested him red-handed collecting donations for the organisation. He was arrested after solid information from the reliable sources, the prosecution said.
