LAHORE
Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) Punjab Organiser Chaudhry Sarwar has demanded that upcoming by-elections and local bodies’ polls should be held under the supervision of Rangers.
He was addressing a press conference on Friday along with leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed and Punajb president Ijaz Chaudhary at Chairman Secretariat. The PTI leaders accused the ruling party of rigging and said it had released development funds worth of Rs 7.25 billion ahead of local bodies’ polls to influence results in their favour.
The ruling party is releasing funds to its members of the assembly and even those who lost elections. It has been pointed out by the PTI several times but the Election Commission is not taking any action. The issue of release of development funds ahead of the local bodies’ polls would be take up in the Punjab Assembly, they added.
The party would protest in front of the Election Commission on October 4 if the four provincial members did not resign. However, the PTI would not boycott the electoral process. All mainstream political parties including PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PAT head Dr Tahirul Qadri are demanding resignation of members of the Election Commission. The people of Lahore would vote for Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif in the upcoming by-polls and not party candidates. The PTI would formally launch its election campaign for upcoming by-polls in NA-122 tomorrow (September 6) on Defence Day.
