LAHORE
The Lahore High Court has denied a request of the Election Commission of Pakistan for appointment of election tribunal consisting of LHC judges for disposal of election petitions, said a press release issued by LHC on Saturday.
The ECP had decided not to extend the period of present election tribunals comprising retired district & sessions judges. So, the ECP sent a request to the LHC to constitute tribunals consisting of LHC judges. As per Section 57 of the Representation of People Act, 1976, election tribunals shall principally consist of a person who is a retired District and Sessions Judge, therefore, the ECP’s request cannot be acceded and is hereby declined, the press release added.
custody: An Additional District and Sessions Court on Saturday handed over two children to their mother after getting them recovered from the illegal custody of father.
One Asma Bibi filed a habeas corpus petition in the court alleging that her husband Muhammad Zafar had detained her four-year old daughter Saiqa and two year-old son Sohail illegally. She contended that she had a bitter wedlock due to which scuffle on domestic issues was a routine matter with her husband. She informed the court that she was tortured by her husband a few days back. He kicked her out of his house and snatched her children.
She implored the court to recover children from the illegal custody of Zafar. The court directed the SHO concerned to recover children. The SHO raided the house of Zafar and found children there.
