Punjab Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din unveiled a plaque marking the inauguration of Day Care Centre, a project funded by the Punjab government’s Women Development Programm Fund (WDPF), at Forman Christian College (FCC) on Tuesday.
FCC Rector Dr James A Tebbe, Vice-Rector Dr Joseph Jones, Registrar Dr Hamid Saeed, Chief Advancement Officer Mrs Yvette Jones and President Alumni Association Chaudhary Ahmad Saeed were also present. The Day Care Centre is a learning centre for children from two months to three years of age and meets the guidelines given by the WDP fund as well as US standards for staff-child ratios, health requirements and safety standards. Speaking on the occasion, Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din said 61 WDP-funded Day Care Centres were currently operational in Punjab. She also shed light on her department's activities and initiatives taken to empower women in the province. Dr James A Tebbe stressed the need for educating women as well as supporting working women by providing them reliable childcare. He said the Centre was open to children of employees and non-employees. The Centre employs well-trained staff who offers children hours of fun and educational activities. Lesson plans are designed to increase the physical and mental capabilities of the children. The daily activities are planned in the areas of social development, language and literacy, creative representation, movement, music, logic and mathematics.
