Challenges to veterinary teaching discussed

A one-day training workshop “Future Challenges in Veterinary Teaching” was held at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Friday.
The workshop, organised by varsity’s Centre of Educational Policy and Administration (CEPA), was aimed to suggest revisions and modifications in the curriculum of veterinary education keeping in view the current needs for livestock and related sectors.
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the concluding session while CEPA President Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Prof Dr Khushi Muhammad, Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Dr Hafsa Zainab and other faculty members attended.
In his addressed, Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha stressed that the curriculum of veterinary sciences professional degree programmes should be regularly updated. He said the commercial setups of poultry, dairy and meat units provided an extensive learning opportunity for undergraduate students.
Earlier, Prof Dr Irshad Hussain delivered a lecture on “Future Challenges in Veterinary Teaching”. He talked about various aspects of innovative veterinary curriculum and shared his experiences and knowledge with the UVAS faculty members. He spoke about the postmortem techniques, cattle necropsy, meat hygiene, papillary light reflex pathway, integrity of nerves, mummery gland tumor, anatomy, skin, muscles, spay and neuter anatomy, reproduction anatomy, histology, microbiology, rabies/dog bites, epidemiology and clinical procedure.
Meanwhile, a five-day workshop on “Basic Laboratory Techniques” was concluded at UVAS. The vice-chancellor also chaired the concluding session of the workshop and distributed certificates among participants.
Speaking on the occasion, the VC said it was necessary for lab assistants and lab attendants to have knowledge about the lab handling and its maintenance.
