SMS service launched to shift people to safer places: CM

Orders timely evacuation of people from flood-prone areas

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that SMS service has been started for giving advance warning to the people living near rivers regarding flood situation. He said the SMS service had been launched for shifting these people to safer places.
The chief minister directed Cabinet Committee on Flood and administrations of districts concerned to continuously monitor the flow of water in rivers and in case of threat of flood, all possible protective measures should be adopted and evacuation of the people living near rivers should be
ensured at any cost. He said that he is personally monitoring the situation.
The chief minister Monday reviewed flood situation, protective arrangements and relief activities in South Punjab and issued necessary instructions to Provincial Cabinet Committee on Flood and administrations concerned in this regard. He instructed that the Cabinet Committee on Flood and administrations of districts concerned should complete all protective arrangements in time to cope with flood. He said that timely evacuation of the people of the areas where there was a threat of flood should be ensured and all-out measures should be taken for the protection of life and property of citizens. He said that no excuse would be acceptable regarding safe evacuation of the people.
He said that every need of the flood affected areas would be fulfilled. He said army, administration, police, Rescue 1122 and other institutions concerned were working in an active manner.
Issuing instructions for accelerating relief activities in the flood-hit villages of South Punjab, he said that abundant stock of necessary medicines should be available in medical camps. He said that additional boats should also be sent to the affected villages and administrations and institutions of the districts concerned should extend maximum assistance to the affected persons. He said that flood affectees would be rehabilitated on the pattern of 2010. He said that he was personally monitoring flood situation and relief activities. Shahbaz Sharif could not visit flood-affected areas of Layyah Monday because as he was not feeling well. He will soon visit Layyah and meet the flood affectees.
mock exercise: The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) carried out a mock exercise at River Ravi to handle the emergency situation in case of flood on Tuesday.
Officials said District Coordination Officer (DCO) Lahore Capt Muhammad Usman along with senior officials of the CDGL also visited River Ravi to inspect the Mock Exercises of Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence. The DCO Lahore, talking with the media, said so far there was no flood threat to River Ravi and the water flow in River Ravi was 22,000 cusec while the low level flood in river started from 45,000 cusec. He further said the water flow at a point from where the water entered into Pakistan’s boundary was less than 22,000 cusec which showed that the current flow of water recorded at the Ravi bridge would reduce from 22,000 cusec in the next 24 hours. DCO Lahore said the District Administration was keeping a strict eye on the water inflow of River Ravi and all the arrangements had been completed to handle any

Lahore and his team also visited different adjoining localities of River Ravi on the Rescue 1122 boats.
Fuel data: Keeping in view the flood situation in the province, the Punjab government has started collecting data of fuel availability on filling stations in every district. Industries, Commerce & Investment Department issued a circular on Monday directing the district administration to submit details of fuel supply, demand and stock situation on daily basis. The details are being collected to ensure in time fuel supply in the flood hit-areas.
