People have shown concern over long and unscheduled electricity loadshedding in the city and its adjoining areas. The power supply remained suspended for several hours without any prior notice from the Wapda authorities. The power shutdown paralysed all activities in the city. The business community also faced problems due to power shutdown. The people demanded the government take steps to overcome energy crisis.
HOARDERS WARNED: Punjab government special adviser Irshad Jutt Sunday said a strict action would be taken against those creating artificial shortage and price hike. Talking to reporters during his visit to Ramazan Bazaars, the advisor said a large number of people were getting benefits of subsidy of the Punjab government. He said officers of districts administrations were personally supervising the bazaars. He checked prices and quality of items displayed in the bazaars and also inquired from the people about availability of items.
TWO BOOKED: Two men were booked on charges of issuing fake cheques on Sunday. Allah Rakha had gotten a loan of Rs 170,000 from Nasar Ali of College Road. He issued a cheque that was bounced. Muhammad Asif had gotten a loan of Rs 950,000 from Muhammad Ashraf of Nagina Chowk and issued a fake cheque that was bounced. Police have registered cases.
Search operation: Kasur police on Sunday arrested 25 suspects during a search operation in Kot Radha Kishan area. On the order of DPO Rai Babar and other law enforcing agencies, a police party headed by Sadar circle DSP Mirza Arif raided various localities of Kot Radha Kishan including Mohallah Meo, Yasirabad, Nae Abadi, Mazhar Colony and Mohallah Judgewala and arrested 25 suspects. The suspects were shifted to some undisclosed place for interrogation. The DSP told that those suspects who gave their identification were released. In the meantime, the police raided a house and recovered two sacks of illicit weapons and arrested a man and registered a case against him. The search operation was continued till the filling of this report.
Breach: Hundreds of acres of crops were inundated and several houses were damaged when a 100-feet wide breach occurred in the Hakrra Canal near Basti Dangarran Wali near Bahawalnagar on Sunday. People of the area including farmers staged a demonstration against the Irrigation Department as no official reached to the spot to fill the breach. Later, locals started to fill the breach on self-help basis.
LG polls: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab organiser Chaudhry Sarwar Sunday said the PML-N government was reluctant to hold local bodies’ elections in Punjab for success fear of the PTI. Speaking at Iftar dinners at Toba Tek Singh, Sarwar said the PML-N government was aware that the PTI would sweep the LG polls. He said the rulers had promised to end loadshedding in three months but now three years have passed and there is no indication of lessening of outages. One Iftar dinner was arranged by new party office-bearers and the other was hosted by outgoing office-bearers and founder party members. During an Iftar dinner former PPP city general secretary Zeeshan Azam Randhawa announced joining the PTI.
Former district nazim and ex-Punjab PTI vice president Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq and newly appointed party office bearers were present. Old and new party office bearers also spoke.
