Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation, Federal Board of Revenue has reported two traders had imported tons of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films unlawfully and caused a loss of over Rs 6 million to the national exchequer while evading duty/taxes.
FIA and Customs authorities during a joint raid on February 28, 2015, at two traders of Urdu Bazaar Lahore had seized 27.198 metric ton BOPP films which were shifted to the state warehouse of Directorate of Int & Inv-FBR, Lahore. The traders had imported tons of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) films unlawfully causing a loss of over Rs 6 million to national exchequer while evading taxes.
According to the seizure report, available with The News, the owners including Zeeshan Butt and Salman Butt, sons of Shahzada Farrukh Butt failed in proving legal import of the sized films which proved they had smuggled them and caused a loss of Rs 6 million to the national exchequer in duty/taxes. A case under sections 2, 16,156&178 of Customs Act 1969, section 3 of Import & export (Control) Act 1950, etc has been registered against the accused for further investigations.
