CM orders police stations’ computerisation

Says effective system of accountability should be ensured

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting at Arfa Karim Software Technology Park on Thursday, which reviewed overall law and order situation and security arrangements in the province.
The meeting decided to expand the scope of use of information technology to the whole province for improving efficiency of police stations and provision of prompt justice to the common man, said a handout.
In this connection, the pilot project for computerisation of 10 police stations of Lahore will be extended to all police stations of Punjab under a phased programme.
The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to evolve a comprehensive project and said short, medium and long-term planning should also be made as use of information technology could help in reducing crime rate and providing prompt justice to the common man at police stations.
He said information and communication measures could help control crimes and maintain law and order. He said computerisation of police stations would improve their performance; therefore, full benefit should be taken from information technology for further enhancing efficiency of Punjab Police. Shahbaz directed that the Punjab Police should extend the scope of FIR information system and said immediate and effective measures were needed to restore the confidence of the masses in police.
He said an effective system of accountability should be ensured which would result in positive changes at the police station level. He further directed to compile a complete data of police officers and staff through the use of information technology.

said the Punjab government has set up an ever-first solar power station of Pakistan at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, Bahawalpur.
The Punjab government has completed 100 megawatt solar power project with its own resources. He said this project, completed in a record period, would soon be inaugurated and an important step had been taken towards eliminating loadshedding through a planning of the solar power stations.
