Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri has formed a nine-member committee headed by PAT president Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi for contesting local bodies elections (LB) in 42 cantonments of the country.
The committee will decide candidates and coordinate and assist their political and religious parties, said a press release on Monday.
The committee has written letters to all the provincial presidents and secretaries seeking their advice and recommendations for the aspiring candidates, and send applications of the aspirants to Pakistan Awami Tehreek central secretariat by March 27.
Other members of the committee are Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Basharat Jaspal, Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz, Fayyaz Warraich, Sajid Bhatti, Raazia Naveed, Shoaib Tahir, Noorullah Siddique and Irfan Yousaf. Four provincial committees have also been set up.
Dr Qadri said likeminded parties must be contacted and mutual candidates must be fielded in the elections.
In a telephonic conversation with Raheeq Abbasi, Dr Qadri said the credit for holding local bodies elections goes to Supreme Court of Pakistan.
