LAHORE
WWF-Pakistan initiated a project to promote energy conservation awareness and discourage energy wastage among school students.
WWF-Pakistan officials said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Energy Conservation Fund (ECF) in this regard. Through this MoU, ECF will carry out energy usage assessments in the Green Schools of WWF-Pakistan, especially in Islamabad/Rawalpindi.
Under the programme, lectures and presentations on energy conservation and the efficient use of electric appliances will be given to the students. This will be beneficial for capacity building of children as well as their teachers. Green Schools and students will be encouraged to conserve energy through efficient use, use of economical and non-polluting energy methods by introducing clean and alternate sources of energy in Pakistan.
WWF-Pakistan appreciated ECF’s support and hoped that the collaboration would be instrumental in inculcating a sense of responsibility among students. ECF appreciated the role of WWF-Pakistan in sensitising children and hoped that this would lead to energy conservation, which would eventually help in dealing with Pakistan’s electricity shortfall.
WWF-Pakistan’s Green School Programme is a structured environmental education and awareness campaign that engages students in year around events, activities and skill development workshops. The partnership between WWF-Pakistan and ECF aims at making students environmentally aware. Through the Green School Programme, students will get an opportunity to become official ambassadors of WWF-Pakistan, and will participate in various events and activities.
Alliance: Pakistan is facing immense challenges in achieving internationally agreed education, health and nutrition goals.
It has been experimenting with the implementation of different school health programmes for a long time and has yet to develop and implement an effective and sustainable school health programme.
These programmes while demonstrating the effectiveness of the integrated health, nutrition and education approach to addressing many of the current issues of education in Pakistan, have failed to scale up and become an integral component of the education system.
Nur Centre for Research and Policy (NCRP), as part of its research and advocacy project on evidence generation and advocacy for institutionalisation of school health programme in Punjab organised a consultative meeting to form an Alliance for School Health Institutionalisation in Education System held on Tuesday at a local hospital.
