PESHAWAR: The President Pak-Afghan Transit Trade and former senior vice-president of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Abdul Hameed Gurwara, has welcomed the round-the-clock

opening of Pak-Afghan border and said the initiative would boost trade and businesses between the two neighbouring countries.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Gurwara, who is also president Ittifaq Kidney Centre, thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Advisor to Prime Minister Shehzad Arbab and KP Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra for taking this historic decision.

“We, the traders and businessmen of both the countries appreciate the step as it would not only enhance business activities but would also bring the peoples of Pakistan and Afghanistan closer besides extending trade activities to the Central Asian states,” the businessman said.

This is worth mentioning that around 13,000 people and 1,000 cargo vehicles pass through Torkham border daily.

Human traffic between the two countries has been regulated after the government introduced a border management plan in 2017.
