The Artillery Maidan SHO and two other policemen were suspended on Tuesday for implicating a citizen in a false case.
DIG South Jamil Ahmed told The News that he had ordered the suspension of Artillery Maidan SHO sub-inspector Arshad Janjua, sub-inspector Saleem Nawaz, and sub-inspector Mohammad Anwar.
The DIG said he had received a complaint against some officers of the Artillery Maidan police station. He met with the complainant, Fawad Ahmed, and his family, who told him their flat in the Asif House compound on Fatima Jinnah Road had been forcibly occupied by a man named Qasim alias Bobby.
Fawad told the official that SHO Janjua, at Qasim’s behest, had booked his brother, Hammad Ahmed, in a falsecase. The SHO had registered FIR No 195/15 under Section 23 (i) A of the Sindh Arms Act against Hammad at the Artillery Maidan police station, under the pretext that he had been found in possession of a repeater.
The DIG said taking notice of the complaint he had assigned the task of probing the case to Frere sub-divisional police officer Zawar Hussain Unar.
The sub-divisional police officer in his report submitted that Hammad had been falsely been implicated.
The DIG said taking action on the inquiry report he had issued the suspension orders of SHO Janjua, sub-inspector Saleem Nawaz, the complainant in the false case; and sub-inspector Mohammad Anwar, its investigation officer.
He also directed sub-divisional police officer Unar to dispose of the case under the Final Report “B” Class so that the grievances of the family could be redressed.
