Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan was informed on Tuesday that the electronic surveillance system of the Sindh police currently covers 538 spots across the city with a total of 2,278 closed-circuit television cameras.
He was visiting the Central Police Office and control rooms of the command and control surveillance system at the Civic Centre building along with Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal. Ebad was also informed that the electronic surveillance system had been launched with installation of 66 CCTV cameras at 168 spots in the city. The main mourning processions on 9th and 10th Muharram would be covered through 246 CCTV cameras on 69 spots.
In the year 2015, Sindh police has upgraded working of 160 surveillance cameras for electronic monitoring of the mourning processions and other such important events. The governor directed the officials that a list should be compiled for keeping proper record of the CCTV cameras installed at various locations by different persons and organisations privately on self-help basis from security and safety points of view. He gave the direction that the command and control systems working at the Civic Centre building and the Central Police Office should be made inter-connected.
