The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have largely agreed on seat adjustments for the upcoming local bodies elections in the city.
JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said this after submitting his nomination papers on Wednesday.
Rehman, who will be contesting the election in the Union Council 18 of North Nazimabad Town, said the party was also negotiating with other political parties, religio-political parties and local notables for the remaining slots.
He demanded of the government to extend the last date for the submission of nomination papers, saying that a large number of candidates had not yet submitted their nominations due to the complexity of the form. He further said the JI had also submitted an application to the election commission to extend the deadline for at least two days.
He was of the view that holding free and fair local government elections was the only way to ease the misery of Karachiites. He vowed that the JI would serve Karachi with honesty and dignity.
He demanded of the government to take effective steps to ensure foolproof security and a free environment in which people could vote as per their aspirations.
JI Karachi deputy chief Muslim Pervez also submitted his papers for the UC 30 Yaseenabad.
JI leaders Younus Barai, Engr Sabir Ahmed, Farooq Nematullah, Abdul Jamil, Munem Zafar and Abdul Rasheed also submitted their papers on the same day.
